Aspen City Hall
Aspen City Hall is a vibrant community hub in downtown Aspen, transforming an underutilized site into a dynamic civic space. Positioned for easy access from Aspen Mountain through the downtown core, the new 37,000 sq. ft. building connects seamlessly with the adjacent park and parking garage.
A green roof extends the natural hillside, creating a greenway from mountain to river, with walking paths that blend the landscape with the roofscape. Powered by a natural spring-fed geothermal system, the building prioritizes sustainability and efficiency.
Ground-floor facades recede, inviting the public into sheltered spaces, while each area is designed for specific community uses. The architecture draws from Aspen’s mining history, with materials that complement the town’s industrial past, and a non-monumental scale preserves view corridors. North-facing daylight illuminates workspaces and public areas, while channel glass enhances transparency and connects council chambers to the plaza.
The LEED Gold and WELL-certified building incorporates a 30kW solar array, green roof, bioswales, and daylighting systems to meet ambitious sustainability and wellness goals, adding a celebrated resource to Aspen’s civic landscape.
