APD Housing

The APD Housing project, crafted for Aspen Police Department personnel, exemplifies sustainable, community-centered design within the urban core of Downtown Aspen. Adjacent to the department’s headquarters, this multifaceted housing development harmonizes a range of unit types within a three-story structure that responds thoughtfully to the site's unique context.

The project’s urban infill location, bounded by pedestrian easements and neighboring buildings, posed distinctive design challenges that were met through a careful layering of exterior entries, strategically placed outdoor living spaces, and energy-efficient features. By emphasizing sustainability at every turn, the design prioritizes reduced environmental impact and ensures long-term resilience in Aspen’s rigorous mountain climate.

Interior spaces are optimized for livability, integrating natural light, high-performance materials, and passive ventilation to create comfortable, durable homes for APD staff. The building’s innovative layout not only fosters a sense of community but also demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to urban workforce housing in Aspen's vibrant downtown.
