Aspen Glen Gold Course
Developed in two stages, the vision of this project was to create the central structure for activities of the Aspen Glen community. The building provides a model for the architectural character of the community at large. The siting of the building provides a prominent overview of Aspen Glen, the golf course, the Roaring Fork River, Mt. Sopris, the cliffs of Missouri Heights, and down valley vistas of Glenwood Springs—encompassing all of the key elements of this magnificent setting. The Clubhouse has indeed become an integral gathering place for residents and members.
The Aspen Glen Clubhouse facility houses the Golf Pro Shop and office along with many amenities for members and guests. As the site slopes away, the lower level is exposed allowing prominent vistas and the ability to walk out of the exercise/aerobics class areas to the spa and swimming pool located on a terrace overlooking the expanded tennis facility. Cart storage is located on the lower level as well.
The facility also includes an entry foyer, formal dining room, lounge with bar, private dining room, offices, and men’s locker room on the main level. On the lower level are exercise and aerobics facilities, a women’s locker room, and mechanical spaces to serve the building.
The massing, materials, fenestration, and detailing follow the vocabulary established by the first phase of this structure. The major spaces are arranged to take advantage of the spectacular views. The indigenous combination of stone, stained wood, exposed timber frame, and shake/rusted corrugated roof provide a palette perfectly suited to the site.
